Inclusive hiring

We hire solely on merit and commercial need, valuing a range of skills, backgrounds, and experiences to meet the rapidly changing demands of our industry.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures a workplace enriched by different perspectives and ways of thinking. We encourage applications from all backgrounds.

Our recruitment process

You may be invited to one or all these stages, depending on the role. We want you to feel well-informed and welcomed throughout the recruitment process, so we’ll let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

Step 1

Online application

When you see a vacancy, it’s best to apply immediately using the application form on our website.

Step 2

Telephone interview

An informal phone interview with a member of our HR team, covering your skills, experience and motivations. We’ll email you details beforehand.

Step 3

Face-to-face interview

An interview with the hiring manager, where you can ask questions and get to know our business a little better.

Step 4

Competency test

For some roles, we may test your relevant technical skills – for example, a coding exercise for engineering or a writing task for editorial.

Step 5

Assessment centre

If you’ve applied for an apprenticeship or for our graduate programme, we may ask you to attend an assessment centre.

Step 6

Offer

If you’re successful, our Talent team will call you to make a verbal offer. We’ll follow this up with a confirmation email.

Once you’ve accepted our offer, our HR team will contact you to arrange a start date and organise any practicalities for your first day.

Tips from the team

Making a great application

Our online application form is designed to get the best out of you and give us all the relevant information we need. It's your first opportunity to convince us of your skills and suitability for the role and to sell yourself as a future TMG employee.

Including a cover letter is a great way to do this, focusing on skills and experiences relevant to the role. Ensure you fill out every section as fully as possible.

Performing well at interview

Your interview with the hiring manager is an opportunity to showcase your relevant experience, achievements and technical capabilities (where applicable). They will have reviewed notes from your initial HR interview, so this is your chance to dive deeper and learn more about us. Some interviews may include competency-based questions, and we recommend using the STAR approach to structure your responses. Come prepared with thoughtful questions about our organisation, and reviewing the day’s Daily Telegraph or our website beforehand can be a great way to stay informed.

Shining at an assessment centre

If we ask you to attend an assessment centre for one of our graduate programmes or apprenticeships, it's your chance to show us your abilities. You could be working with several other applicants throughout the process, but remember, you're not competing with them. We'll be assessing you all as individuals. So, whether you're participating in group or individual exercises or a presentation, just be yourself and show us what you have to offer.

FAQs. General questions

While we hope you've found all the answers you're looking for within this site, we realise that there are a few questions that don't naturally fall within any of the sections.

But if you need to contact the Talent team, you can reach us at talent@telegraph.co.uk.

Can I just send you my CV?

We recommend that you keep an eye on our careers site for a job that’s a good fit for you, rather than sending your CV speculatively. This means you won’t miss out on any opportunities.

Do you offer entry-level roles?

Yes, we do. Take a look at our Future Talent page for more details.

Do you offer part time roles or flexible working?

We support flexible working and do offer both part-time roles and flexible working on a case-by-case basis. When you apply for a role please let us know (via your cover letter) what sort of flexibility you’re looking for and we’ll be sure to have a conversation with you about it, should you proceed to interview.

Will I need a valid work permit?

Feel free to apply to any jobs you're qualified for. If the role is appropriate for visa sponsorship and you're qualified for the job, the recruiter will let you know how to proceed with the interview process.

FAQs. Applying

We appreciate everyone who chooses to apply, and so our Talent team take the time, care, and attention to review every application, covering letter and application questions (when asked).

Can I apply for more than one job at the same time?

Yes, you can apply for multiple jobs. We recommend, however, that you only apply for jobs that you are well qualified for.

How do I find out what’s happening with my application?

Once you have applied, our recruiters will keep you in the loop. Please allow a couple of weeks initially for us to look through applications - we get quite a few.

Will you contact me whether or not I’ve been successful?

Yes, we aim to let applicants know the result of their application, whether they are successful or not.

Can I get feedback if I have been unsuccessful?

Unfortunately, we can’t give feedback to everyone who applies due to the number of applications we receive. If you have a phone or face-to-face interview, or are invited to complete a task, you will receive feedback.

Will you need a reference from my current employer?

Upon acceptance of a job offer, we will ask you to provide two job references and verification of any appropriate qualification for your role and, if required, a DBS check.

Why do you monitor diversity information?

We collect diversity information to ensure we maintain equal and inclusive recruitment processes. Your data will not be used on an individual basis and will not be used in any way to inform recruitment decisions.

FAQs. Interview preparation

Congratulations, you've got an interview! Here are our thoughts on the questions we get asked the most by candidates preparing for an interview with us.

What should I wear for my interview?

Wear what you feel comfortable in. As a guide, smart-casual is always good for an interview.

Where will my interview take place?

Our office is based in Victoria Central London, and it’s likely that your interview will be here; however, as a first-round interview, we may ask to just chat via a video call. Either way, the instructions will be included in your interview invite.

What if I need reasonable adjustments?

If you need help with accessibility or to make an application, such as our web page not working with your assistive technology, please email  talent@telegraph.co.uk and we can assist you via email or arrange a phone call.

Once you have applied, We are always happy to make reasonable adjustments and never want accessibility to be a barrier to success in our recruitment processes. Therefore, if you reach an appropriate stage in the recruitment process please speak to the recruiter about any reasonable adjustments you may need.

Do you cover interview travel expenses?

At this time we don’t cover interview travel expenses as a matter of course. However if you are applying for one of our Future Talent programmes and need to talk about support, please have a conversation with the recruiter about this - we never want financial circumstance to be a barrier to people joining us.

Should I read The Telegraph on the day of my interview?

Please do! Engaged and informed applicants make a good impression. However, you do not have to be a regular Telegraph reader or subscriber to thrive here.
